Jakarta, INDONESIA – Pundi X, a leading global developer of blockchain-powered devices, has announced it had successfully created a blockchain-based OS and communication protocol for mobile devices, allowing users to make calls, send messages and transmit data via a fully decentralized blockchain network. They have also claimed to have made the first blockchain phone call through the startup’s newest device, called the XPhone.
The demonstration was held in front of a crowd of journalists and attendees during the XBlockchain Summit at the Inaya Putri Bali. Unlike traditional phones which require a centralised mobile carrier, XPhone is capable of running independently on another Pundi X invention, the Function X blockchain.
In a Medium article posted by Pitt Huang, CTO and co-founder of Pundi X, they write:
“We’ve developed our own chain which we believe will answer many of the challenges facing the many blockchain platforms today by increasing its scale, ability to publish DApps and achieve true decentralization. It will also revolutionize the way we transmit data of all kinds: giving rise to a truly decentralized internet.”
Function X is made up of five components that make it a truly decentralized solution: Function X OS, Function X Blockchain, Function X IPFX, FXTP Protocol, and the Function X Docker. The Function X OS is based off the Android OS 9.0, so developers could transition to the Function X platform with relative ease, as the post claims:
“We also believe it will be easier than ever to create and publish new decentralized applications using the protocol.”
“Every device in the Function X ecosystem will be a node and each will have its own address and private key, uniquely linked to their node names, not unlike traditional URL and IP addresses.”
Pundi X claims that the data shared on the blockchain component guarantees communication without interception, and users can access their own photos, files or websites through this path. Any info that is sent or transacted over the Function X Blockchain will also be recorded on the chain.
Users can call, text, or email the XPhone by using pre-defined commands such as “call.pitt” or “message.pitt.”, with “pitt” in this case being Pitt Huang’s username on the network.
Pundi X CEO and co-founder Zac Cheah said that the XPhone has the potential to establish a large global pool of nodes that can be harnessed to help achieve scalability and decentralisation for the broader blockchain ecosystem.
